Louisa May Alcott Letters

series-book-plates-presented-toIt's always amazing to me when I go looking for one thing and find another when browsing my favorite old book shops. I came across this lovely old book, Hospital Sketches by Louisa M. Alcott, "Author of Little Women"

series-book-plates-presented-toPublished in 1889 by Robert Brothers, when you open the book, you find a lovely inscription dated 1890 in the penmanship of the day. It measures 5 x 7 inches and is 379 pages. It holds several black and white illustrations.

series-book-plates-presented-toHospital Sketches is a compilation of four sketches based on letters Louis May Alcott sent home during the six weeks she spent as a volunteer nurse for the Union Army in Goeorgetown. The first was published in 1863.

series-book-plates-presented-toThe binding is lovingly worn, and in wonderful condition considering it is 111 years old. Some of the pages have a few small stains. This little treasure will complete a Louisa May Alcott collection, or be the lovely beginning of one.

series-book-plates-presented-toI will package this lovely old treasure in parcel paper with a vintage ribbon.

series-book-plates-presented-toMy true love is in restoring the artwork I find inside Antique books. I am not a book seller, nor will I ever aspire to be one, but I just love bringing home one of these finds to offer to someone.

series-book-plates-presented-toI have searched high and low on the Internet for this edition, I found one which the seller was trying to sell for hundreds of dollars. A valuable little treasure for someone who adores Louisa May Alcott, like I do, or a great book seller who will find a profitable little investment.

series-book-plates-presented-toListed in my little For The Love of Old Books on etsy, I will wrap this little treasure like an old fashioned parcel, tied with Vintage ribbons. Tucked inside you will find an original book plate with words PRESENTED TO, FROM, designed by me restoring an Antique illustration.

What a precious book. I have five vintage books by Louisa May Alcott: Little Women, Little Men, Eight Cousins, Rose in Bloom, and Old Fashioned Girl. All are illustrated by either Clara Burd or Jessie Wilcox Smith. It looks like your book must have already sold :). You have a great treasure hunter's eye and offer amazing finds through your shop.

Karen,
That looks like a really interesting book. I wonder if I could find it someplace? I would love to read it. I checked on Amazon and they have newer copies but they don't have anywhere near the same number of pages, couldn't figure that out.
How is that cigar box project going?

Karen,
I was looking at some of my books this morning, and came across my old 1921 copy of HEIDI.Sure is bigger then the little Golden Book I had when I was little. I posted a picture.
Hope all is well in your world. Snowing as usual here. Are you getting that big storm?
